Why this year matters

Older SSC CGL papers like 2020 are for mining, not nostalgia. Keep current marking rules, and skip topics the latest brochure dropped. Speed with accuracy is the game. Tag silly misses ruthlessly; they repeat on SSC papers.

Count attempts and accuracy by section. A high raw score with a failed sectional cut-off is still a fail in the real exam.

Paper analysis

Snapshot of SSC CGL 2020

Disrupted calendar. Keep current SSC norms.

2020 may feel differently paced than the newest cycle. Borrow stamina and theme lessons; do not copy obsolete section orders or marking quirks.

What this paper stresses

  • GA current + static mix that coaching dumps mis-weight.
  • Quant silly misses at high attempt rates.
  • Shift normalisation anxiety that wrecks accuracy.
  • English error patterns that repeat every year.

What to extract before you move on

  • GA static lists that actually appeared (not the 200-page PDF).
  • Quant chapters producing silly misses.
  • English error rules worth a one-page sheet.
  • Attempt-rate targets per section under current negatives.

How 2020 sits next to other years

Use 2020 only after SSC CGL 2025, SSC CGL 2024, SSC CGL 2023 are logged. Archive years are for frequency maps, not for predicting tomorrow’s cut-off.

Analyst note: The conducting body did not publish the SSC CGL 2020 paper. The mock below is original practice in the reported pattern; treat coaching “memory-based” papers as unofficial reconstructions.

SSC CGL 2020 Tier-I mock paper (modelled on candidate reports)

This is a mock paper we wrote. The official 2020 paper was never released. The conducting body has not published it. These 20 questions are original, written by previousyearquestions.app to match what candidates and exam analyses reported about the 2020 exam: section mix, topics and difficulty. Use it to practise the pattern. The questions themselves are not from the real exam.

Since it moved to computer-based tests, SSC has not published CGL question papers publicly: each candidate can see their own response sheet and the provisional key only inside their login for a few days, for personal use, and ssc.gov.in's previous-year page holds only an old generic model paper. This original 20-question mini-paper follows exam analyses of the CGL 2020 Tier-I computer-based test, which was delayed by the pandemic and held from 13 to 24 August 2021.

What candidates reported about 2020

  • CGL 2020 Tier-I was held online from 13 to 24 August 2021 in three shifts a day, with scores normalised across shifts.
  • 100 questions in 60 minutes (four sections of 25 questions, 50 marks each); +2 per correct answer, −0.50 per wrong answer.
  • Overall difficulty was rated easy to moderate on most days and moderate on some.
  • Quantitative Aptitude was repeatedly called the toughest and most time-consuming section.
  • General Awareness was usually rated moderate and time-consuming, with current affairs from 2020-21 alongside static GK.
  • English Comprehension and Reasoning were generally the easiest sections, with good attempts around 18-23 each.

Suggested time: 12 minutes. Tier-I 2020 (held August 2021) was a computer-based test of 100 questions (25 per section) in 60 minutes, worth 200 marks. For this 20-question mock allow 12 minutes. Each question has four options with one correct answer; +2 for a correct answer and −0.50 for a wrong one; unattempted questions score zero.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

  1. Select the letter-cluster that is related to the third letter-cluster in the same way as the second is related to the first. ACE : FHJ :: BDF : ?

    1. GHJ
    2. GIK
    3. HJL
    4. FIK
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (GIK)

    Each letter moves 5 places forward: A→F, C→H, E→J. So B→G, D→I, F→K gives GIK.

  2. Select the letter that will come next in the series. B, E, I, N, ?

    1. S
    2. U
    3. T
    4. R
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (T)

    Gaps increase by one: B(+3)E(+4)I(+5)N(+6)T. N is the 14th letter, 14 + 6 = 20, which is T.

  3. Asha walks 10 km north, turns right and walks 6 km, then turns right again and walks 2 km. How far is she now from her starting point?

    1. 8 km

    3. 14 km
    4. 10 km
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: D (10 km)

    She ends 10 − 2 = 8 km north and 6 km east of the start. Distance = √(8² + 6²) = √100 = 10 km.

  4. Statements: All pens are books. Some books are bags. Conclusions: I. Some pens are bags. II. Some bags are books. Which conclusion(s) follow?

    1. Only I follows
    2. Only II follows
    3. Both I and II follow
    4. Neither I nor II follows
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (Only II follows)

The bags that are books need not include any pens, so I does not definitely follow. 'Some books are bags' converts directly to 'Some bags are books', so II follows.

  5. If '+' means '×', '×' means '−', '−' means '÷' and '÷' means '+', what is the value of 18 − 3 + 4 ÷ 6 × 2?

    1. 28
    2. 26
    3. 30
    4. 24
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: A (28)

    Replacing the signs: 18 ÷ 3 × 4 + 6 − 2 = 6 × 4 + 6 − 2 = 24 + 6 − 2 = 28.

    1. 30
    2. 36
    3. 24
    4. 40
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (36)

    C's one-day work = 1/6 − 1/12 − 1/18 = (6 − 3 − 2)/36 = 1/36. So C alone takes 36 days.

  2. What is the compound interest on ₹8,000 at 10% per annum for 3 years, compounded annually?

    1. ₹2,400
    2. ₹2,648
    3. ₹2,560
    4. ₹2,680
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (₹2,648)

    Amount = 8000 × 1.1³ = 8000 × 1.331 = ₹10,648. CI = 10,648 − 8,000 = ₹2,648.

  3. What is the value of sin²30° + cos²45° + tan²60°?

    1. 13/4
    2. 7/4
    3. 15/4
    4. 4
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (15/4)

    sin 30° = 1/2, cos 45° = 1/√2, tan 60° = √3. So 1/4 + 1/2 + 3 = 15/4.

  4. The radius of a right circular cylinder is 7 cm and its height is 10 cm. What is its curved surface area? (Take π = 22/7)

    3. 1540 cm²
    4. 748 cm²
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: A (440 cm²)

    Curved surface area = 2πrh = 2 × 22/7 × 7 × 10 = 440 cm².

  5. An article marked at ₹2,500 is sold after two successive discounts of 20% and 10%. What is the selling price?
