Why this year matters

2015 will not mirror every new question type, but it still trains selection, stamina, and the chapters that keep coming back. Speed with accuracy is the game. Tag silly misses ruthlessly; they repeat on SSC papers.

Count attempts and accuracy by section. A high raw score with a failed sectional cut-off is still a fail in the real exam.

Paper analysis

Snapshot of SSC CGL 2015

Oldest CGL on this hub. Light theme mining only.

2015 may feel differently paced than the newest cycle. Borrow stamina and theme lessons; do not copy obsolete section orders or marking quirks.

What this paper stresses

  • English error patterns that repeat every year.
  • GA current + static mix that coaching dumps mis-weight.
  • Quant silly misses at high attempt rates.
  • Shift normalisation anxiety that wrecks accuracy.

What to extract before you move on

  • Attempt-rate targets per section under current negatives.
  • GA static lists that actually appeared (not the 200-page PDF).
  • Quant chapters producing silly misses.
  • English error rules worth a one-page sheet.

How 2015 sits next to other years

Use 2015 only after SSC CGL 2025, SSC CGL 2024, SSC CGL 2023 are logged. Archive years are for frequency maps, not for predicting tomorrow’s cut-off.

Analyst note: The conducting body did not publish the SSC CGL 2015 paper. The mock below is original practice in the reported pattern; treat coaching “memory-based” papers as unofficial reconstructions.

SSC CGL 2015 Tier-I mock paper (modelled on candidate reports)

This is a mock paper we wrote. The official 2015 paper was never released. The conducting body has not published it. These 20 questions are original, written by previousyearquestions.app to match what candidates and exam analyses reported about the 2015 exam: section mix, topics and difficulty. Use it to practise the pattern. The questions themselves are not from the real exam.

SSC has not made the CGL 2015 Tier-I question booklets available as an official download: its current Previous Year Question Paper page holds only a 2011 generic CHSL model paper, and the old ssc.nic.in files from 2015 cannot be reached. This is an original 20-question mini-paper modelled on the last pen-and-paper CGL Tier-I, sat on 9 and 16 August 2015 (with a 30 August re-exam), and on what candidates reported about it.

What candidates reported about 2015

  • Tier-I was an offline OMR paper held on 9 and 16 August 2015: 200 objective questions in 2 hours, 50 each from General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension.
  • Each question carried 1 mark, with 0.25 deducted for every wrong answer.
  • A printing error in one booklet series used in the Northern Region outside Delhi led SSC to hold a re-exam for affected candidates on 30 August 2015.
  • About 17.86 lakh candidates appeared; the general-category cut-off for Tier-II was reported as 102.25 out of 200.
  • Candidates on the forums mostly called the paper easy to moderate overall: reasoning easy but time-consuming, maths easy to moderate with a handful of tough questions, and English moderate with a quick passage.
  • General Awareness was the section most often described as tough, with some environment and geography questions resembling civil services prelims material.

Suggested time: 12 minutes. The real 2015 Tier-I gave 120 minutes for 200 questions (50 per section) on an OMR sheet. This 20-question mock keeps the same pace: 12 minutes for all four sections, in any order. Each question carries 1 mark; 0.25 is deducted for a wrong answer and nothing for an unattempted one.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

  1. Select the number that completes the analogy. 8 : 64 :: 11 : ?

    1. 110
    2. 121
    3. 132
    4. 144
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (121)

The second number is the square of the first: 8² = 64, so 11² = 121.

  2. Find the next number in the series. 3, 7, 15, 31, 63, ?

    1. 125
    2. 126
    3. 127
    4. 129
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (127)

    Each term is double the previous term plus 1: 3×2+1 = 7, 7×2+1 = 15, 15×2+1 = 31, 31×2+1 = 63, so 63×2+1 = 127.

  3. In a certain code, GARDEN is written as HBSEFO. How is FLOWER written in that code?

    1. GMPXFS
    2. GMOXFS
    3. GLPXFS

    Answer and explanation

    Answer: A (GMPXFS)

    Each letter moves one place forward: G→H, A→B, R→S, D→E, E→F, N→O. So F→G, L→M, O→P, W→X, E→F, R→S, giving GMPXFS.

  4. Pointing to a boy, Rina says, "His mother is the only daughter of my mother." How is Rina related to the boy?

    1. Sister
    2. Aunt
    3. Grandmother

    Answer and explanation

    Answer: D (Mother)

The only daughter of Rina's mother is Rina herself. So the boy's mother is Rina, i.e. Rina is his mother.

  5. Select the odd one out.

    1. 64
    2. 125
    3. 144
    4. 216
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (144)

    64 = 4³, 125 = 5³ and 216 = 6³ are perfect cubes. 144 = 12² is a perfect square but not a perfect cube.

    1. 15%
    2. 19%
    3. 21%
    4. 25%
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (19%)

    Let cost price = 100. Marked price = 140. Selling price = 140 × 0.85 = 119. Profit = 19 on 100, i.e. 19%.

  2. If x + 1/x = 5, what is the value of x² + 1/x²?

    1. 23
    2. 25
    3. 27
    4. 21
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: A (23)

    (x + 1/x)² = x² + 2 + 1/x². So x² + 1/x² = 5² − 2 = 25 − 2 = 23.

  3. What is the value of sin²30° + cos²45° + tan²60°?

    1. 13/4
    2. 7/2
    3. 15/4
    4. 4
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (15/4)

    sin 30° = 1/2, so sin²30° = 1/4. cos 45° = 1/√2, so cos²45° = 1/2. tan 60° = √3, so tan²60° = 3. Sum = 1/4 + 2/4 + 12/4 = 15/4.

  4. A can finish a piece of work in 12 days and B can finish it in 18 days. Working together, in how many days will they finish it?

    Answer and explanation

    Answer: D (7.2 days)
