Why this year matters
2019 will not mirror every new question type, but it still trains selection, stamina, and the chapters that keep coming back. Speed with accuracy is the game. Tag silly misses ruthlessly; they repeat on SSC papers.
Count attempts and accuracy by section. A high raw score with a failed sectional cut-off is still a fail in the real exam.
Paper analysis
Snapshot of SSC CGL 2019
Last CGL paper before the pandemic, useful for static General Awareness.
2019 may feel differently paced than the newest cycle. Borrow stamina and theme lessons; do not copy obsolete section orders or marking quirks.
What this paper stresses
- English error patterns that repeat every year.
- GA current + static mix that coaching dumps mis-weight.
- Quant silly misses at high attempt rates.
- Shift normalisation anxiety that wrecks accuracy.
What to extract before you move on
- Attempt-rate targets per section under current negatives.
- GA static lists that actually appeared (not the 200-page PDF).
- Quant chapters producing silly misses.
- English error rules worth a one-page sheet.
How 2019 sits next to other years
Use 2019 only after SSC CGL 2025, SSC CGL 2024, SSC CGL 2023 are logged. Archive years are for frequency maps, not for predicting tomorrow’s cut-off.
Analyst note: The conducting body did not publish the SSC CGL 2019 paper. The mock below is original practice in the reported pattern; treat coaching “memory-based” papers as unofficial reconstructions.
SSC CGL 2019 Tier-I mock paper (modelled on candidate reports)
Since it moved to computer-based tests, SSC has not published CGL question papers publicly: each candidate can see their own response sheet and the provisional key only inside their login for a few days, for personal use, and ssc.gov.in's previous-year page holds only an old generic model paper. This original 20-question mini-paper follows exam analyses of the CGL 2019 Tier-I computer-based test held in early March 2020.
What candidates reported about 2019
- CGL 2019 Tier-I was held as a computer-based test in early March 2020 (reported as 3 to 9 March), in three shifts a day.
- 100 questions in 60 minutes across four sections of 25 questions each; +2 per correct answer, −0.50 per wrong answer.
- Most shifts were rated easy to moderate overall; reasoning was called the easiest section.
- Reasoning was mostly analogy, odd one out, coding-decoding, series and missing numbers, with single questions on blood relation, Venn diagram and mirror images.
- Quantitative Aptitude had a 4-5 question tabular DI set plus 2-3 questions each of trigonometry and algebra and about 2 on geometry.
- English had a 5-question cloze test with about two questions each on idioms, one-word substitution, spelling, synonyms/antonyms, voice and error detection.
- General Awareness mixed ancient history, economics, general science and awards with current affairs from late 2019.
Suggested time: 12 minutes. Tier-I 2019 (held March 2020) was a computer-based test of 100 questions (25 per section) in 60 minutes, worth 200 marks. For this 20-question mock allow 12 minutes. Each question has four options with one correct answer; +2 for a correct answer and −0.50 for a wrong one; unattempted questions score zero.

Select the number that is related to the third number in the same way as the second number is related to the first number. 7 : 50 :: 9 : ?
- 81
- 82
- 80
- 90
Answer and explanation
Answer: B (82)
50 = 7² + 1, so the rule is n² + 1. For 9: 9² + 1 = 81 + 1 = 82.
Select the odd one out.
- 23
- 31
- 49
- 43
Answer and explanation
Answer: C (49)
23, 31 and 43 are prime numbers. 49 = 7 × 7 is not prime, so 49 is the odd one.
Select the number that will come next in the series. 3, 8, 18, 38, 78, ?
- 156
- 154
- 160
- 158
Answer and explanation
Answer: D (158)
Each term = previous × 2 + 2: 3×2+2 = 8, 8×2+2 = 18, 18×2+2 = 38, 38×2+2 = 78, 78×2+2 = 158.
In a certain code language, MOTHER is written as NPUIFS. How will FATHER be written in that language?

Data Interpretation
The table shows the number of scooters (in thousands) produced by a company from 2015 to 2019.
| Year | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scooters (thousands) | 42 | 48 | 55 | 60 | 75 |
What is the percentage increase in production from 2018 to 2019?
- 20%
- 25%
- 15%
- 30%
Answer and explanation
Answer: B (25%)
Increase = 75 − 60 = 15 thousand. Percentage increase = 15 ÷ 60 × 100 = 25%.
What is the average annual production (in thousands) over the five years?
- 54
- 55
- 58
- 56
Answer and explanation
Answer: D (56)
Total = 42 + 48 + 55 + 60 + 75 = 280. Average = 280 ÷ 5 = 56 thousand.
If sec θ + tan θ = 3, what is the value of sin θ?
- 3/5
- 4/5
- 5/4
- 2/3
Answer and explanation
Answer: B (4/5)
Since sec²θ − tan²θ = 1, sec θ − tan θ = 1/3. Adding: 2 sec θ = 3 + 1/3 = 10/3, so sec θ = 5/3. Subtracting: 2 tan θ = 3 − 1/3 = 8/3, so tan θ = 4/3. sin θ = tan θ ÷ sec θ = (4/3) ÷ (5/3) = 4/5.
If x + 1/x = 5, what is the value of x³ + 1/x³?
- 125
- 115
- 110
- 140
Answer and explanation
Answer: C (110)
x³ + 1/x³ = (x + 1/x)³ − 3(x + 1/x) = 5³ − 3 × 5 = 125 − 15 = 110.
In triangle ABC, ∠A = 70°. The bisectors of ∠B and ∠C meet at I. What is ∠BIC?
- 125°
- 110°
- 135°
- 145°
Answer and explanation
Answer: A (125°)
∠B + ∠C = 180° − 70° = 110°, so ∠IBC + ∠ICB = 55°. Hence ∠BIC = 180° − 55° = 125° (equivalently 90° + ∠A/2 = 90° + 35°).
