No exam held this year

No SBI Clerk exam was held in 2017. Practise the SBI Clerk 2017 mock paper: original questions in the pattern used around 2017, clearly labelled as a mock.

Why this year matters

2017 will not mirror every new question type, but it still trains selection, stamina, and the chapters that keep coming back. Sectional timing and cut-offs matter as much as raw accuracy. Track attempts per section, not just the total.

Count attempts and accuracy by section. A high raw score with a failed sectional cut-off is still a fail in the real exam.

Paper analysis

Snapshot of SBI Clerk 2017

Archive Clerk.

2017 may feel differently paced than the newest cycle. Borrow stamina and theme lessons; do not copy obsolete section orders or marking quirks.

What this paper stresses

  • Puzzle / DI sets that should have been abandoned earlier.
  • English error-spotting under speed pressure.
  • Mains vs Prelims difficulty mismatch (especially SBI / RBI).
  • Sectional cut-off failures despite a decent overall.

What to extract before you move on

  • Sectional attempt targets that still clear cut-offs in mocks.
  • English miss taxonomy (grammar vs vocab vs RC).
  • Prelims vs Mains repair queues kept as separate lists.
  • Puzzle / DI patterns that beat you when you overstay.

How 2017 sits next to other years

Use 2017 only after SBI Clerk 2024, SBI Clerk 2023, SBI Clerk 2022 are logged. Archive years are for frequency maps, not for predicting tomorrow’s cut-off.

Analyst note: No SBI Clerk exam was held in 2017. The mock below is a practice set in that period’s pattern.

SBI Clerk 2017 mock paper (modelled on the 2016–18 Junior Associates Prelims)

Practice mock: no exam was held in 2017.These 26 questions are original, written by previousyearquestions.app in the pattern used around2017. Use it to practise the pattern. The questions are not from any real exam.

SBI ran no Junior Associates recruitment exam in 2017: its archived career notices go from the 2016 Junior Associates results to the next clerical advertisement in January 2018, and SBI never publishes clerk question papers in any case. This original mini-paper is a practice set for the gap year, modelled on the Prelims pattern of that period as reported by candidates in 2016 and 2018.

What candidates reported about 2017

  • No SBI Junior Associates notification or exam was held in 2017; the next recruitment was notified in January 2018 with prelims in June–July 2018.
  • The prelims pattern of the period: 100 questions in 60 minutes (English 30, Numerical 35, Reasoning 35), +1/−0.25 marking.
  • In 2016 the prelims used a single composite timer; from 2018 each section got its own 20-minute timer.
  • Candidates in both years reported seating/floor puzzles as the largest reasoning block, with coded inequalities, blood relations and ranking.
  • Numerical Ability mixed simplification, number series (including wrong-number series), a DI set and arithmetic; English had RC, cloze, para jumbles and error spotting.

Suggested time: 16 minutes. Practise this 26-question mock in 16 minutes on a single timer, as in the 2016 prelims (60 minutes for 100 questions). Five options per question; +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer.

Passage

When the borewell in their apartment complex began to run dry every summer, the residents of a city housing society faced a choice. They could buy water from tankers at rising prices, or they could try to catch the rain that fell on their own rooftops.

After much debate, they chose the second option. Pipes were laid to carry rainwater from the terraces to a filter and then into a pit that allowed the water to soak into the ground near the borewell. The work cost each family roughly what it had been spending on tanker water in a single summer.

The results took two monsoons to appear. By the third year, the borewell no longer failed in April, and tanker purchases had almost stopped. The society's secretary admits that the biggest challenge was not engineering but persuading every family to contribute. 'Water under the ground belongs to everyone,' he says, 'so the work had to be shared by everyone too.'

  1. What problem did the residents of the housing society face?

    1. Their rooftops leaked during the monsoon
    2. Their borewell ran dry every summer
    3. Tanker water was banned in the city
    4. Their filter stopped working
    5. The society had no secretary
    Answer and explanation

    Answer and explanation

Answer: B (About what it spent on tanker water in one summer)

'The work cost each family roughly what it had been spending on tanker water in a single summer.'

    1. Finding engineers
    2. Laying the pipes
    3. Persuading every family to contribute
    4. Waiting for the monsoon
    5. Buying a filter
    Answer and explanation

Reasoning Ability

Puzzle

Seven persons A, B, C, D, E, F and G live on the seven floors of a building, one per floor. The lowest floor is 1 and the top floor is 7.

G lives on the middle floor. Two persons live between G and C. A lives immediately above G. Only one person lives between A and B. E lives on a floor above A. F lives immediately above C. D lives on a floor below G.

  1. Who lives on the top floor?

    1. A
    2. B
    3. C
    4. D
    5. E
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (B)

    Floors from top: 7: B, 6: E, 5: A, 4: G, 3: D, 2: F, 1: C. G is on floor 4, so C (two floors between) is on 1 or 7, and F is immediately above C, so C = 1 and F = 2. A is on 5. B is two floors from A: 3 or 7. D is below G, so D must take 3, making B = 7; E, above A, takes 6.

  2. Who lives immediately below G?

    1. A
    2. C
    3. D
    4. E
    5. F
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (D)

    Floors from top: 7: B, 6: E, 5: A, 4: G, 3: D, 2: F, 1: C. D is on 3, just below G on 4.

  3. How many persons live above E?

    1. None
    2. One
    3. Two
    4. Three
    5. Four
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (One)

    Floors from top: 7: B, 6: E, 5: A, 4: G, 3: D, 2: F, 1: C. Only B (floor 7) is above E (floor 6).

Coded inequality

In the following questions: P @ Q means P > Q; P # Q means P < Q; P $ Q means P = Q; P % Q means P ≥ Q; P & Q means P ≤ Q. Decide which conclusion(s) definitely follow.

  1. Statement: M @ N, N $ O, O % P Conclusions: I. M @ P II. N % P

    1. Only conclusion I follows
    2. Only conclusion II follows
    3. Either I or II follows
    4. Neither I nor II follows
    5. Both I and II follow
    Answer and explanation

Answer: E (Both I and II follow)

    Decoded: M > N = O ≥ P. So M > P (I) and N ≥ P (II) both follow.

  2. Statement: R & S, S # T, U $ T Conclusions: I. R # U II. S $ U

    1. Only conclusion I follows
    2. Only conclusion II follows
    3. Either I or II follows
    4. Neither I nor II follows
    5. Both I and II follow
    Answer and explanation

Answer: A (Only conclusion I follows)

    Decoded: R ≤ S < T = U. So R < U (I follows), but S < U, so S = U (II) does not follow.
