Why this year matters

RRB NTPC 2020 still sits close to the current pattern. Use it after the newest year so you are not learning process and content on the same day. Speed with accuracy is the game. Tag silly misses ruthlessly; they repeat on SSC papers.

Count attempts and accuracy by section. A high raw score with a failed sectional cut-off is still a fail in the real exam.

Paper analysis

Snapshot of RRB NTPC 2020

Disrupted calendar. Keep current RRB norms.

2020 should feel close to the newest paper in structure. If it feels wildly easier or harder, check whether you changed attempt strategy, not only content knowledge.

What this paper stresses

  • GA current + static mix that coaching dumps mis-weight.
  • Quant silly misses at high attempt rates.
  • Shift normalisation anxiety that wrecks accuracy.
  • English error patterns that repeat every year.

What to extract before you move on

  • GA static lists that actually appeared (not the 200-page PDF).
  • Quant chapters producing silly misses.
  • English error rules worth a one-page sheet.
  • Attempt-rate targets per section under current negatives.

How 2020 sits next to other years

Stack 2020 beside RRB NTPC 2021, RRB NTPC 2019, RRB NTPC 2018. Shared misses across these years are your real syllabus debt.

Analyst note: The RRBs did not publish the RRB NTPC 2020 paper. The mock below is original practice in the reported pattern; treat coaching “memory-based” papers as unofficial reconstructions.

RRB NTPC 2020 mock paper (modelled on CEN 01/2019 CBT-1, phase 1 from 28 December 2020)

This is a mock paper we wrote. The official 2020 paper was never released. The conducting body has not published it. These 24 questions are original, written by previousyearquestions.app to match what candidates and exam analyses reported about the 2020 exam: section mix, topics and difficulty. Use it to practise the pattern. The questions themselves are not from the real exam.

CBT-1 of CEN 01/2019 opened on 28 December 2020 and ran in seven phases until 31 July 2021. The RRBs released question papers, responses and keys only through candidate logins for the August 2021 objection window, and no official public copy remains, so this is an original mock for the first phase, with current affairs up to the end of 2020.

What candidates reported about 2020

  • CEN 01/2019 offered 35,208 NTPC vacancies at graduate and undergraduate levels and drew over 1.2 crore applicants.
  • CBT-1 began on 28 December 2020 after delays caused by COVID-19; phase 1 alone had about 23 lakh candidates.
  • The notified CBT-1 pattern: 100 questions in 90 minutes, about 40 General Awareness, 30 Mathematics and 30 General Intelligence and Reasoning.
  • Negative marking was 1/3 mark per wrong answer, and scores were normalised across sessions.
  • The syllabus named Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Elementary Statistics in Mathematics, which goes beyond the older Arithmetic-only label.
  • General Awareness covered current events, games and sports, art and culture, general science up to Class 10, history, geography, polity and computer basics.

Suggested time: 22 minutes. 24 questions; allow about 22 minutes (the real CBT-1 gave 90 minutes for 100 questions). Each question carries 1 mark; 1/3 mark is deducted for every wrong answer, and unattempted questions score zero.

Mathematics

  1. If x + 1/x = 5, what is the value of x² + 1/x²?

    1. 25
    2. 23
    3. 27
    4. 21
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (23)

    Squaring gives x² + 2 + 1/x² = 25, so x² + 1/x² = 23.

  2. If tan θ = 3/4 and θ is acute, what is sin θ?

    1. 4/5
    2. 3/4
    3. 3/5
    4. 5/3
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (3/5)

    Take opposite = 3 and adjacent = 4; the hypotenuse = √(9 + 16) = 5. So sin θ = 3/5.

  3. A's salary is 25% more than B's. By what percentage is B's salary less than A's?

    1. 25%
    2. 15%
    3. 20%
    4. 22%
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: C (20%)

    If B = 100, A = 125. B is less by 25/125 × 100 = 20%.

  4. Find the volume of a cylinder of radius 7 cm and height 10 cm. (Use π = 22/7.)

    1. 1440 cm³
    2. 1620 cm³
    3. 3080 cm³
    4. 1540 cm³
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: D (1540 cm³)

    V = πr²h = 22/7 × 49 × 10 = 154 × 10 = 1540 cm³.

  5. What is the smallest number that must be added to 1000 to make it exactly divisible by 23?

    1. 11
    2. 10
    3. 13
    4. 12
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: D (12)

    1000 = 23 × 43 + 11, so the remainder is 11. Add 23 − 11 = 12 to get 1012 = 23 × 44.

  6. Find the mode of: 3, 5, 7, 5, 9, 5, 3, 7

    1. 5
    2. 3
    3. 7
    4. 9
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: A (5)

5 occurs three times, more than any other value.

  7. Walking at 4/5 of his usual speed, a man reaches his office 10 minutes late. What is his usual time for the journey?

    1. 30 minutes
    2. 40 minutes
    3. 45 minutes
    4. 50 minutes
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (40 minutes)

    At 4/5 speed the time becomes 5/4 of usual. 5t/4 − t = 10 gives t/4 = 10, so t = 40 minutes.

General Intelligence and Reasoning

  1. Find the next term: 1, 2, 6, 24, 120, ?

    1. 720
    2. 600
    3. 240
    4. 840
    Answer and explanation

    Answer and explanation

    Answer: D (27)

    1. Thursday
    2. Friday
    3. Saturday
    4. Monday
    Answer and explanation

    Answer: B (Friday)

    15 August 1947 was a Friday. You can check with odd days: 1600 years give 0, 300 years give 1, and 46 years (11 leap years) give 46 + 11 = 57, which is 1 odd day. 1 Jan to 15 Aug 1947 is 227 days, which is 3 odd days. Total = 0 + 1 + 1 + 3 = 5, and 5 = Friday.

How to sit RRB NTPC 2020

  1. Work through the mock paper above under exam timing. It follows the reported pattern, but the questions are our own.
  2. Sit the paper under current brochure rules (timers, negatives, NAT/MSQ norms), even if 2020’s interface looked different.
  3. When the clock ends, stop. Review should take at least as long as the attempt.
  4. Fill the error log the same day: section, topic, and miss type (concept, silly, time, or misread).
  5. Next session, repair only logged items. Then pick another year from the decade list.

FAQ

Where can I download the official RRB NTPC 2020 question paper?

The RRBs did not release it publicly. This page has a clearly labelled mock paper modelled on candidate reports instead.

What does the RRB NTPC 2020 paper analysis include?

A year snapshot, what the paper stresses, what to extract into your error log, and how 2020 compares with neighbouring years on this hub.

How should I practise the RRB NTPC 2020 previous year paper?

Open the official PDF, sit it timed under current brochure rules, fill an error log the same day, read the paper analysis, then move to another year in the decade list.
