Why this year matters
By 2021, you should already have an error log. Open this paper to pressure-test whether those tags still hold. Sectional timing and cut-offs matter as much as raw accuracy. Track attempts per section, not just the total.
Count attempts and accuracy by section. A high raw score with a failed sectional cut-off is still a fail in the real exam.
Paper analysis
Snapshot of IBPS Clerk 2021
Useful English + Quant speed year.
2021 is a mid-decade stress test. Difficulty spikes here usually come from topic mix and selection pressure, not from obsolete exam software.
What this paper stresses
- Puzzle / DI sets that should have been abandoned earlier.
- English error-spotting under speed pressure.
- Mains vs Prelims difficulty mismatch (especially SBI / RBI).
- Sectional cut-off failures despite a decent overall.
What to extract before you move on
- Sectional attempt targets that still clear cut-offs in mocks.
- English miss taxonomy (grammar vs vocab vs RC).
- Prelims vs Mains repair queues kept as separate lists.
- Puzzle / DI patterns that beat you when you overstay.
How 2021 sits next to other years
Compare 2021 with IBPS Clerk 2024, IBPS Clerk 2023, IBPS Clerk 2022. Themes that repeat across this band deserve deliberate notes; one-off oddities do not.
Analyst note: IBPS did not publish the IBPS Clerk 2021 paper. The mock below is original practice in the reported pattern; treat coaching “memory-based” papers as unofficial reconstructions.
IBPS Clerk 2021 mock paper (Prelims, modelled on candidate reports)
IBPS does not publish question papers for its Clerk exams, so no official 2021 paper can be hosted; the papers online are coaching memory-based versions. This original mini-paper follows candidate reports of the CRP Clerks-XI Preliminary exam held in December 2021.
What candidates reported about 2021
- 100 questions in 60 minutes, 20 minutes per section (English 30, Numerical 35, Reasoning 35).
- Prelims ran in December 2021; reviews of the 19 December shifts called English easy and the other two sections easy to moderate.
- Reasoning: 15 puzzle questions (square-based, floor-based and comparison-based), plus syllogism, inequality, Chinese coding, word or pair formation, word series and blood relations.
- English: an animal-based RC in one shift (10 questions), fillers, error detection, word usage, word rearrangement and new-pattern para jumbles.
- Numerical Ability: 10–12 simplification, 10–13 arithmetic, a DI or caselet set, and quadratic equations or a missing number series.
- +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong one.
Suggested time: 17 minutes. As in the real 2021 prelims, each section is timed separately. For this 27-question mock use about 5–6 minutes per section (17 minutes in total) and do not return to a section once it is over. Five options per question; +1 for a correct answer, −0.25 for a wrong answer.

Passage
Elephants are famous for their trumpeting, but much of their conversation is never noticed by people. A large part of it takes place through deep rumbles, many of them too low in pitch for the human ear to detect. These sounds can travel several kilometres, allowing members of a scattered family to keep track of one another across the forest.
Researchers who record these calls have found that they are not random. A mother separated from her calf makes a different rumble from an elephant warning others of danger, and the herd responds differently to each. Some scientists believe that elephants may also sense such vibrations through the ground, picking them up through the sensitive soles of their feet.
Understanding these calls has practical value. In areas where elephants raid crops, forest officials are testing systems that listen for rumbles near villages and send an early warning to farmers. Such tools cannot end conflict between people and elephants, but they may give both a little more time to avoid each other.
Why does much of elephant communication go unnoticed by people?
- Elephants communicate only at night
- Many of their rumbles are too low in pitch for humans to hear
- Elephants rarely make any sound
- Their calls travel only a few metres
- People confuse rumbles with trumpeting
Answer and explanation
Answer: B (Many of their rumbles are too low in pitch for humans to hear)
The passage says many rumbles are 'too low in pitch for the human ear to detect'.
What have researchers found about elephant calls?
- All rumbles carry the same message
- Calves cannot produce rumbles
- Different situations produce different rumbles, and the herd responds differently to each
- Elephants respond only to trumpeting
- Rumbles are used only to warn of danger
Answer and explanation
Answer: C (Different situations produce different rumbles, and the herd responds differently to each)
A mother separated from her calf makes a different rumble from a warning call, 'and the herd responds differently to each'.
Which of the following is supported by the passage about the early-warning systems?
- They have ended crop raids completely
- They are being tested to warn farmers but cannot end conflict on their own
- They are used to drive elephants away with loud sounds
- They track elephants using satellites
- They were designed by farmers
Answer and explanation
Answer: B (They are being tested to warn farmers but cannot end conflict on their own)
Officials are 'testing systems' that warn farmers; the passage adds that 'such tools cannot end conflict' but may give both sides more time.

Reasoning Ability
Puzzle
Six students P, Q, R, S, T and U scored different marks in a test.
Q scored more than only two students. R scored more than P but less than T. S scored less than U. P scored more than Q.
Who scored the highest marks?
- P
- Q
- R
- T
- U
Answer and explanation
Answer: D (T)
Order from highest: T > R > P > Q > U > S. Q has exactly two below it, and P, R, T are all above Q (T > R > P > Q), so S and U are the two below Q, with U above S.
Who scored the second lowest marks?
- P
- Q
- S
- T
- U
Answer and explanation
Answer: E (U)
Order from highest: T > R > P > Q > U > S; the second lowest is U.
If R scored 78 and U scored 52, which of the following could be Q's score?
- 45
- 50
- 64
- 79
- 81
Answer and explanation
Answer: C (64)
Order: T > R > P > Q > U > S. Q lies between U (52) and P, and P is below R (78), so Q is strictly between 52 and 78. Only 64 fits.
Syllogism and inequality
Decide which conclusion(s) definitely follow.
Statements: No chair is a table. All tables are desks. Conclusions: I. Some desks are not chairs. II. No desk is a chair.
- Only conclusion I follows
- Only conclusion II follows
- Either I or II follows
- Neither I nor II follows
- Both I and II follow
Answer and explanation
Answer: A (Only conclusion I follows)
The desks that are tables cannot be chairs, so some desks are not chairs (I). Other desks may be chairs, so II does not follow.
Statement: F ≥ G > H, H = I ≤ J, K > J Conclusions: I. F > I II. K > H
- Only conclusion I follows
- Only conclusion II follows
- Either I or II follows
- Neither I nor II follows
- Both I and II follow
Answer and explanation
Answer: E (Both I and II follow)
F ≥ G > H = I gives F > I. K > J ≥ I = H gives K > H. Both follow.
