WBJEE is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) and covers Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. This page summarises the WBJEE exam pattern, marking scheme and syllabus as a study snapshot for previous year question practice. Confirm eligibility, dates and marking in the latest official notification on wbjeeb.nic.in.

Category scoring
- Category 1: one correct option, +1 for correct, minus 1/4 for wrong or for more than one option marked.
- Category 2: one correct option, +2 for correct, minus 1/2 for wrong or multiple.
- Category 3: one or more correct options. Full 2 marks for all correct options and none wrong; partial credit equal to 2 x (correct options marked) / (total correct options) if no wrong option is marked; zero for any wrong option, with no negative marks.
What each subject covers
The bulletin says the syllabus aligns with the Class 11 and 12 curricula of recognised boards. Mathematics is calculus, algebra, coordinate geometry, vectors, 3D geometry and probability, and the bulletin calls it the most challenging section. Physics covers mechanics, thermodynamics, electrostatics, magnetic effects of current, optics and modern physics with numerical focus. Chemistry covers inorganic (chemical bonding, p-block), physical (equilibrium, kinetics) and organic.
Ranks and tie-breaks
Both papers give a General Merit Rank; Paper II alone gives a Pharmacy Merit Rank. Ties are broken in order by fewer negative marks across all three subjects, then more positive marks in Mathematics and Physics together, and further steps listed in the bulletin.
Eligibility snapshot
For engineering, the 10+2 pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; for pharmacy, Physics and Chemistry with Mathematics or Biology, at least 45% (40% for reserved categories) in the three subjects together, and English with at least 30%. Confirm the exact rule in the current bulletin.

Mark every missed question by subject and chapter. With Mathematics at 100 of 200 marks and the highest negative-marking exposure (15 two-mark questions at minus 1/2), cutting guesses in Category 2 is the cheapest gain.
