## JEE Main 2026 at a glance

JEE Main 2026 was held by NTA in two sessions. For the April session, NTA released the actual question paper of every B.E./B.Tech (Paper 1) shift, so you can sit real 2026 papers end to end. For the January session, NTA published the final answer key but not the question papers.

| | Session 1 (January) | Session 2 (April) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Exam dates (Paper 1) | 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2026 | 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 April 2026 |
| Shifts | 10 (two a day) | 9 (two a day; one shift on 8 April) |
| Official question papers | Not published | All 9 shifts, hosted below |
| Final answer key | Hosted below (as on 16.02.2026) | Hosted below (the key the result was compiled on) |

### Session 2 shift papers on this page

| Date | Shift 1 | Shift 2 |

## Paper pattern (from the official 2026 papers)

| | |
| --- | --- |
| Duration | 3 hours (180 minutes) |
| Total marks | 300 |
| Questions | 75, all compulsory |
| Subjects (in paper order) | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| Per subject | Section A: 20 MCQs (80 marks) · Section B: 5 numerical-answer questions (20 marks) |
| Marks per question | 4 |

Each question in the NTA papers carries a question ID, and each MCQ option has an option ID. The final answer keys list the correct option ID (or numerical answer) against each question ID. The final keys mark some questions as dropped; check the information bulletin for how dropped questions are scored.

## Paper analysis

### Snapshot of JEE Main 2026

The 2026 papers kept the pattern introduced in 2025: no choice in Section B, so all five numerical questions in each subject count. With nine official April shift papers, you have nine full, real tests in the current pattern.

Shift difficulty differs. Do not compare raw scores across shifts; compare which subject and which section cost you marks.

### What this paper stresses

- Mathematics comes first in the paper, so a slow Maths section eats Physics and Chemistry time.
- Five compulsory numerical questions per subject: no negative-free skipping strategy any more.
- Silly arithmetic after a correct setup, especially in Physics numericals.
- Chemistry questions answered from memory of NCERT lines, where a half-remembered fact is a wrong option.

### What to extract before you move on

- Marks lost per subject and per section (A vs B) for each shift you sit.
- Numerical answers that were right in your working but wrong in the final value.
- One selection rule: what you attempt first, and what you abandon after a fixed time box.
- Chapters with repeated misses across two or more 2026 shifts.

**Analyst note:** Treat coaching "memory-based" Session 1 papers as unofficial reconstructions; only the Session 1 answer key is official.

## Chapter-wise analysis

We tagged every question in the 9 official 2026 papers on this page by chapter: 675 questions (540 MCQ, 135 Numerical). The chapters with the most questions:

- **Mathematics:** [Coordinate Geometry](/jee-main/chapters/coordinate-geometry/) 33, [Integral Calculus](/jee-main/chapters/integral-calculus/) 24, [Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations](/jee-main/chapters/complex-numbers-quadratic/) 20 questions across the 9 papers.
- **Physics:** [Optics](/jee-main/chapters/optics/) 28, [Properties of Solids and Liquids](/jee-main/chapters/properties-of-solids-liquids/) 24, [Electrostatics](/jee-main/chapters/electrostatics/) 15 questions across the 9 papers.
- **Chemistry:** [Equilibrium](/jee-main/chapters/equilibrium/) 16, [Hydrocarbons](/jee-main/chapters/hydrocarbons/) 16, [Coordination Compounds](/jee-main/chapters/coordination-compounds/) 15 questions across the 9 papers.

The 2017 papers we tagged follow a different format (number of papers or questions per paper), so we do not compare counts with 2017.

## How to sit JEE Main 2026

1. Download one April 2026 shift paper and the Session 2 final answer key from this page.
2. Sit the full paper in 3 hours: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, 25 questions each, all compulsory.
3. Mark it with the Session 2 key by question ID: 4 marks for a correct answer, and apply the negative marking rule in the current bulletin.
4. Fill the error log the same day: subject, section, chapter and miss type (concept, silly, time, or misread).
5. Sit a different 2026 shift within the week, then repair only the chapters that failed in both.

## FAQ

### Where can I download the official JEE Main 2026 question paper?
On this page. NTA released the question papers for all nine B.E./B.Tech shifts of the April 2026 session (2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 April). Each file links to its original.

### Is the JEE Main 2026 January (Session 1) question paper available?
NTA did not publish the January 2026 question papers. It published the Session 1 final answer key (as on 16.02.2026), which is hosted on this page. Coaching "memory-based" January papers are unofficial reconstructions.

### Where is the JEE Main 2026 answer key?
Both final answer keys for B.E./B.Tech are on this page: Session 1 (all January shifts) and Session 2 (all April shifts, the key the result was compiled on). They list the correct option ID or answer for each question ID.

### How many questions are in the JEE Main 2026 paper?
75 questions, all compulsory, for 300 marks in 3 hours. Each of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry has 20 MCQs and 5 numerical-answer questions, at 4 marks each.

### Which JEE Main 2026 shifts were held in April?
Shifts 1 and 2 on 2, 4, 5 and 6 April 2026, and shift 2 on 8 April 2026: nine shifts in all.

### How do I match my answers with the JEE Main 2026 answer key?
Each question in the NTA paper has a question ID. Find that ID in the final key for your session and shift date, and compare the correct option ID (or numerical answer) with yours.

### Where is the JEE Main syllabus and pattern?
See the JEE Main syllabus & pattern page, and check the current NTA information bulletin before your exam.
